Construction of the new 3600-metre runway at Kutaisi International Airport is in its final stage. The project is one of the largest aviation infrastructure initiatives in the history of independent Georgia. From the end of 2026, the airport will be capable of accommodating the world's largest aircraft, significantly enhancing the country's aviation capacity.

As part of the project, Sakaeronavigatsia is carrying out a comprehensive modernization of the airport's air navigation and airfield lighting infrastructure. The works include upgrading the runway and taxiway lighting systems, installing a new Instrument Landing System (ILS), deploying modern meteorological stations, and updating aeronautical data. At the same time, flight procedures required for the operation of the new runway are being developed and validated. Training will also be provided for air traffic management and engineering personnel on the operation of the new systems and the application of the updated flight procedures.

Upon completion, the airport will be equipped with advanced navigation infrastructure designed to ensure the safe, efficient, and uninterrupted provision of air navigation services.

"The infrastructure project currently underway at Kutaisi International Airport is of exceptional importance for Georgia, as it marks the construction of the country's first 3,600-metre runway, which will be the longest in Georgia. Sakaeronavigatsia will fully modernize the airport's navigation infrastructure with modern systems that fully comply with both ICAO standards and European Union regulations. As part of the project, new standard departure and arrival procedures have also been developed, and their validation has been successfully carried out using a dedicated inspection aircraft," said Levan Karanadze, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Sakaeronavigatsia.
